Get in Loser, We’re Going Shopping (E. 6)

August was a big month for us! We made it through Thunderbird, and we may have snagged a few things at the vendors row. We love being able to support small businesses, and this was a fabulous way to do it. Not only did we get some great finds, but we had a ton of fun doing it! Here’s your guide to things that we know you need this month.

AUG One K Helmet

Ooooooh la la, how pretty is this helmet?   Ranchero spied this beauty on The Carrington Shoppe’s Instagram on her way to Thunderbird and decided this was a must have.   Picture this with a navy hunt coat and navy wool in a really cute chestnut’s mane, ahhhhhmazing right?

These ONE K Defender Avance Wide Brim helmets are super comfortable and fit true to size.  I am a 6 7/8 and as per their size chart would fit a medium shell, with the 6 7/8 liner, which when I tried it on was perfect.  If you aren’t as daring, these are also available in matte black plain, and with rose gold, and the price point as far as helmets go is very reasonable.

Another rad purch from The Carrington Shoppe (while looking at the aforementioned helmet) were these “equestrian” shirts from The Blissful Equestrian.  Ranchero bought the t-shirt in pink (obvs) while H-Love opted for the tank top in charcoal. There were also many other super cute shirts from The Blissful Equestrian that we wanted but, it turns out money doesn’t grow in trees (who knew?) so we had to settle on just one. This time. Stay tuned to see this in an up coming #ROOTD post on our Instagram!

While I, (Apes) was supposed to be part of the “No Buyers Club” at tbird I am a total AUG Equiline Breeches 2sucker for a good deal. On the first day a fellow Coastal team member spotted the Equiline breeches on the sale rack at Dog & Pony and when she opted not to buy them it planted a seed in my brain that just wouldn’t go away… they were my size and I always feel like I need more beige breeches for show season. Being a master at justifying any purchase I figured since I was doing fewer classes than I planned I could certainly afford to buy new pants RIGHT?! It was all over when I tried them on, even in the heat and being a sweaty mess after showing and sweating it out in the barn all day, they were super comfortable and very flattering. With navy details and pockets in the back they were sold the moment I looked at my butt in the mirror. Equiline is an Italian brand that’s been around as long as I have (since the early 80’s) and have a great line of men’s and women’s technical riding wear. You can see more of their goodies at:

AUG Veredus Boots

Confession: these have been low key on the list for a long time. I (H-love, hello!) have been oogling them for a while… and finally they are a reality. I have a set of well-loved Veredus boots for schooling at home, and honestly, the fit is amazing. The contour on the leg is amazing. For now, I only bought the front boots because I wanted to use these for Carma’s young horse class, and we have to follow FEI booting rules for the hind boots, for which the hind boots in this set would not qualify. However, I watched the video from our round that day and they sure do look sharp! These boots are especially good if you have a horse with sensitive skin, or with allergies as the sheepskin is non-allergenic. Purchased from Calgary Saddlery, a fun new kid on the block that has amazing consignment offerings in addition to new product lines!

HL already has a set of FH breeches, and was so pleased with them she got another pair, this time: the “Remie.” HL picked up these babies in white, and our coach also grabbed a set in beige. Honestly, these are the lightest weight breeches ever. It always seems like you’re wearing whites during shows in the heat of the summer and there’s nothing worse than sweating you’re a$$ off through your old pair of cotton Tailored’s. White is always so unforgiving, and these are actually lovely. Many people don’t like to blow a lot of money on whites since they only get worn maybe 8 times per year, but we’d argue having a nice quality pair means you won’t have to re-buy for a long time. The other beautiful thing about this pair is that they have very few stylistic elements, save for a cute little button on the leg. This means that they are very likely to become outmoded in a hurry, which is another motivating factor in buying these classic looking breeches. If you don’t need whites, the beige colour is beautiful sandy beige, and they also make them in a bunch of other nice, conservative colours (as is the way with FH!). HL picked these up at Equi-Products, which has been her shop of choice since she was 6 years old! Check them out – they have all the best of everything, they’re amazing to deal with, and they have a RAD loyalty program.

Get in Loser, We’re Going Shopping. (E. 5)

Happy July-mas, Babes! So, okay. We know we’re right in the middle of our summer season and funds are wearing a bit thin. We know we can’t have it all, but we can have a little. Here are our best finds and deepest desires for this month!

Ranchero recently got this super pretty limited series eggplant sunshirt with floral vents from It’s a Haggerty’s, and it’s just as beautiful in real life! It hasn’t had it’s formal debut in public yet but seems to fit true to size from the try on at home. Go check them out for their beautiful unique pre-made sunshirts, or design your own!

This was a bit of an impulse purchase (HL, get control of yourself!), but it’s actually adorable. It hasn’t actually arrived yet, but since it’s been paid for we feel like it’s already part of the wardrobe! We’ve had a heat wave in our neck of the woods for the past few weeks and it’s been so amazingly beautiful that this tank top is perfectly fitting. Woot, summer! Dapple Bay also offer free shipping on your first purchase (such a tease!).

These towels are toooo cute and if you are anything like us, towels are life when you are helping your bestie enter the ring looking bomb AF! They even have a handy dandy ring so you can hang them off your backpack (see our last edition for a recommendation on which backpack we like!) or your belt!

As an owner of sometimes (literally) the baddest bay on the block, Apes NEEDS this saddle pad. Available in pony, all purpose, and dressage you can customize in white, navy, or black and add a note to your order to choose what colour you want the embroidery done in. Machine washable and dryer safe means you can wash all the sweat and tears off of it after your baddest of rides.

IMG_3604Our shopping feature is always about our flavour of the month – things we’ve scored, and things we would love to call our own. One thing we don’t always feature are things we couldn’t possibly live without. With this in mind, we wanted to make a special shout out to Ogilvy Equestrian for never letting us down! We have their half pads, baby pads, and polo wraps, and we wouldn’t have itIMG_0530 any other way. The great folks there went out of their way to ensure beautiful embroidery for logo pads, and Heather has ordered them for sponsorship prizes as well. They never disappoint, and we are consistently blown away by the quality and durability of the products. If you need a saddle pad, check with Ogilvy. You’ll be glad you did.

Thanks for your support babes! Enjoy your summer, and shop wisely!

Get in Loser, We’re Going Shopping. (E. 3)

Another day, another dollar. We’re here to turn your dollars into happiness, because whoever said money doesn’t buy you happiness obviously wasn’t a horse girl!

Holy. Friggin. Moly. You babes need to pick this puppy up! Ranchero recently received hers in the beautiful floral snakeskin with antique gold buckle (from 17 Hands), and H-Love picked hers up from the Tried Equestrian with snakeskin and a gunmetal buckle. These are just stupid beautiful, and in no way bulky or heavy. These belts are very wide and are super flattering, but are likely to be too big for some of your breeches with smaller belt loops. They make a 1.5″ version, but honestly we would take the 2″ every time. The beauty is real.

Apes took part in a recent Bit Fitting Clinic with Florence Wetzel, from Ocala FL who is a Neue Schule Certified Bit Fitter. Of course her horse Fire liked one of the most expensive bits, but it was worth every penny for the difference it made in the ride. With a trot that was guaranteed to win the hack class and control without a fight before and after the fences, we’d highly recommend you take a look. If you have questions about this bit and why it worked for Fire, please email us and Apes will tell you all about Fire’s type and why this worked for her. If you’d like to speak with Florence herself, we can give you that contact info. Click here to contact us.

Sometimes you just need to let your t-shirt do the talking for you and Phyllis Stein has got you covered for every day of the week and every mood of the day. Cheeky, clever, and sometimes a little crass – there are too many great ones to choose from, including some vintage ones that all of the Mane Girls treasure in their respective closets. Apes is currently checking the mail daily for the one that reassures her fears that that jump isn’t really THAT big.

As you all know, we three share one main thing: we have young horses. As per FEI regulation, our young horses are only allowed to wear certain hind boots for jumping in young horse sanctioned competition. These Kentucky Horsewear boots tick the boxes for us because they have no elastic, velcro closure, and the sheepskin is helpful for our sensitive baby legs. Make sure if you’re competing in young horse classes that you are up to date on the rules and you come prepared with suitable leg-wear. Nothing worse (or more embarrassing) than being singled out by the steward. #noob

H-Love was lamenting the need for new whites, and these are absolutely the answer. They are beautiful, fashionable, amazing material, and they feature our signature colour! A pale pink logo, and the racket grip on the knee features pink accents. These were made for the Mane Girls! Like most of our favourite breeches, they’re a little tough to track down, but where there’s a will, there’s a way!

Happy Pay Day Mane Babes! Here’s the best way to spend your hard earned bucks this month:

Spiced Hoodie

Ranchero & Apes both bought these. It’s love. This hoodie features an asymmetrical zipper, stacked collar, and really beautiful details. Microfibre elbow patches and pocket details, with matching leather “bow” on the back. It’s gorgeous.

Breathe. I Am A Bad Ass. Ride Every Stride. (All true, but sometimes you need a reminder. Carry these with you, and you’ll ride better. Take our word for it.)

Trinity Tack

Can we say beautiful on a budget? These bridles were $100 include braided reins (start the car!). Check our Instagram feed for a snap of Big Al sporting this beauty.

Ranchero is dying for the Sensation shirt. It’s so beautiful, and she loves the ruching at the collar, and on the sleeves. It has a beautiful open lace detail on the back to keep you cool on those hot summer days, and this lace is carried through to the collar. It’s high up on the want list and lives up to it’s name.
H-Love has had the Dame shirt in her cart for a while… the asymmetrical lace detail is nothing less than divine.
Keep this line coming, 17 Hands Equestrian KEEP IT COMING!

M&GO Overshoes

These are a stylish alternative to traditional boot covers. We’ve wanted them for a while but sometimes they’re hard to find! They’re featured here in pink (duh!), but of course they also come in black and brown and other more traditional colours. But, hey… sometimes you have to be non-traditional. (ManeGirls4Lyfe!)
